This recipe for phyllo candies requires minimum ingredients and can be done in minutes if guests arrive unexpected or you have a sudden craving for sweet.
I filled in chocolate but you can use many other things if chocolate is not readily available…fruit jams, cheeses, peanut butter and dates can make good fillings for these candies. Enjoy eating this candy with its wrapper on 🙂
For Phyllo Candies :
8 squares of phyllo pastry sheet, 5×5 inches
3/4 cup milk chocolate, crushed or ground
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Vegetable oil for frying
This Is What You Do :
Defreeze phyllo pastry sheets. Keep them covered under a damp kitchen towel. Place on a tray or flat plate, brush the edges lightly with butter, place 1 tablespoon of chocolate at the centre of the phyllo square. Fold the sides of the sheet over the chocolate, overlapping each other. Gather the corners gently, tie them with kitchen thread.
Heat oil in a pan, deep enough to immerse the candies. Check the oil for heat by dropping in a piece of phyllo sheet, if its hot enough the piece will rise to the top immediately. Drop the candies into the hot oil, fry briefly or till they are light golden and crisp. Take them out on paper towel to drain excess oil.
Or you can brush them with butter on the outside and bake at 170 degrees C for 5 minutes or till golden and crisp.
Cut off the threads with kitchen scissors. Serve hot with tea or as a light dessert after dinner.
