“I’ve got nothing to do today but smile.” ― Paul Simon

While deciding what should we make for cooking with kids this week, my daughters voted for Painted Sugar Cookies. For one thing both of them are little cookie monsters and the idea of painting their cookies thrilled them beyond everything. The process of making edible paints was immense fun, we ended up with a very happy looking bunch of cookies. Making and eating them made us very happy too :)))

For Painted Sugar Cookies :

2+1/2 cup flour
1 cup butter
3/4 cup caster sugar
1/2 cup soft brown sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon plain yogurt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 teaspoon lemon essence

This Is What You Do :

Mix sugars and butter in a large mixing bowl. Add egg, yogurt vanilla essence and lemon essence. Add flour and baking soda, mix thoroughly. Knead a few times to bring the dough together. Cover and chill for half an hour.
Preheat oven at 175 degrees C.
Sprinkle flour over a work top. Roll out dough almost 1/4 inch thick. Cut out desired shapes with cookie cutters. When you are done painting them, place the cookies over a lightly greased baking tray. Bake for 7-8 minutes .

For Cookie Paint :

Mix 2 egg yolks with 1/2 teaspoon water. Divide the mixture into different bowls and add different food colours. Paint designs or colour whole cookie surface with these paints.

  1. Thanks Harini, try mixing a little orange juice with flour and food colours. I think it should work well 🙂
