Every Saturday night I go to bed thinking about making Sunday brunch a special little family get-together. At the same time I want the recipe to be simple and easy so that I don’t get so exhausted making it that I can’t enjoy my time with my family.
This very easy recipe for baked French toast uses very few ingredients but adds some extra oomph to Sunday Brunch. I don’t have to stand stirring things on stovetop…and I get perfect French toasts with crispy outside and soft inside.
For Baked French Toast :
4 large or 6 medium slices of white bread
3 eggs
4 tablespoons soft brown sugar plus more for sprinkling
1/2 cup cream
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
2 tablespoons butter
This Is What You Do :
Cut bread slices in triangles or rectangle halves. Place them, slighly overlapping or in a double layer in an oven proof, greased dish of 8×10 inches.
Beat eggs in a bowl, add sugar, cream, milk, cinnamon and vanilla. Beat all ingredients together till mixture is frothy.
Pour over slices to cover them completely. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or more conveniently, leave overnight.
Preheat oven to 175 degrees C. Dot the bread with butter, sprinkle brown sugar over it. Bake for 45 minutes or till a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean and the surface turns golden brown. Serve straight from oven with your favourite fruit jam ,whipped cream, maple syrup, chocolate syrup or honey.
